What’s love got to do with life insurance? Actually, a lot. People buy life insurance because they love someone and want to make sure their loved ones would be OK financially if they were to die prematurely.
That’s why the nonprofit Life Happens created the “Insure Your Love” marketing campaign around the February timeframe. Now in its eighth year, “Insure Your Love” does two things really well. First it provides any agent or advisor with a turnkey marketing campaign that they can put into use immediately—no prep needed. Second, it ties a traditionally somber topic, life insurance, to something that everyone is interested in: love.
How much easier is a conversation about life insurance if we begin that conversation talking about love and loved ones?
Here’s the Resource I Love to Use
It’s also a good way to keep the life insurance conversation going. There is one Life Happens “love” flyer that I use in my practice: the “Because He Loved Me” poem. It’s a heartfelt thank-you from a wife to a husband who has died for all he had done. And while life insurance is never mentioned by name, it’s understood that this gift of love from her husband has helped her remain in her world.
I attach this flyer to the life insurance policies that I deliver. It’s a reminder for clients when they pull that policy out some time in the future of why they made the decision to buy in the first place—it was for love.
This year, the Insure Your Love resources are designed and categorized around specific life stages. People often buy life insurance when a life event brings the need front and center. New parents, growing families, couples ready to retire … there are specific resources—from flyers, to videos, to social media graphics—that you can use to reach out in a low-key way. Plus, all Life Happens materials are neutral, third party, with no sales language, making them a great way to start a life insurance conversation.
